Recycling in Singapore

As clean as Singapore is, I don’t get the feeling that its government and citizens are enthusiastic about environmental issues.  Bike lanes are almost non-existent, conspicuous consumption is encouraged, and check out these inscrutable recycling bins I found next to the Lavender MRT station:

Chasing Mirages in Southeast Asia

The original topic of this blog was environmentalism in China.  For the next few months, I will broaden the topic while remaining within the greater theme of chasing mirages.  I am now in Singapore, preparing to embark on a trip through a part of the world that has fascinated me for years.  Southeast Asia possesses some of the most biologically diverse ecosystems in the world, a population with the world’s highest concentration of Theravada Buddhists, farmland that has been continuously and productively cultivated for thousands of years, and downstream river systems that are severely threatened by China’s damming activities.

Please stay tuned.  I look forward to sharing my experiences with you!

Traveling

Uf, I know, it has been way too long since I last posted.  I am back in the old home town now.  Some changes to come…  Look forward to one last installment from the Southwestern Adventure.  For now, I am headed into the desert and canyonlands for a week.  I promise to share with you any inspiration that I meet.  Above is a picture of sakura in Taroko Gorge,  one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.

A reader in China told me that the pictures were loading really slowly so I made the pictures in this episode much smaller.  Hopefully this results in a more enjoyable viewing experience.  Please let me know when you have any complaints or suggestions about the site.  I will always do my best to address them.  I live to give.
